Trip Overview

‘Mt Pumori’, literally means “Unmarried Daughter” according to Sherpa language, was named by George Mallory, due to her location in the shade of Big E, which lies in Khumbu region on the border between Nepal and Tibet of Nepal. It was first climbed in 1962 by Gerhard Lenser, member of a German-Swiss expedition. Mount Pumori (7161m) lies just eight kilometers west of Mount Everest

Standing at an altitude of 23494 ft., Pumori is one of the central attractions of Himalayas. Any trekker or the climber who has made a trip to Everest will always remember its distinctive shape. In general, technically challenging Pumori Expedition is one of the best exercises for climbing Mt. Everest. This might be the dream of the almost climbers to put their feet on the Everest once before they die. Hence, we have used this expedition as a training peak for past Everest teams. We hope this expedition can really fulfill your dream of reaching on the top of the Everest in your next effort if you trust once. This climb requires solid experience on climbing as well as physical fitness.

You need to be at least in 3 camps after base camp to reach the summit. The base camp is just above Gorekh Shep at the altitude of 5300 m. After base camp, you can set up the first camp at the altitude of 5,650 m, around the phase of Mount Pumori.

You should set the second camp at the ridge after the phase at the altitude of 6,000 m. The most technical part for this peak is around camp 1 and 2. You should set camp 3 at the altitude of 6,480 m, around the corner after the ridge.

You can ascend summit from camp 3 to the top of Pumori. Most of the climbers use this route every year for the expedition to Mt. Pumori to limb.

Accommodation

We will be staying at 2/3 star hotel in Kathmandu, and in tea-houses during the trek. All rooms are on twin-shared basis. Single bedroom will be arranged on request and will cost additional. Utmost Adventure will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, tea-houses at most places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. While climbing we will arrange tented basis accommodation as well as shower tent, bathroom tent, kitchen tent and dining tent.

Meals

In Kathmandu, breakfast will be available. All meals will be provided during climbing including tea, coffee prepared by our cook. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners taking place for guests. While on trek, we have breakfast and dinner in the camp where we spend the night and lunch on our way to next destination. Authentic Nepalese, Tibetan, continental meals are common choices in the menu.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

Mount Pumori Expedition is a strenuous expedition. Climbers who can walk/climb up to 5-6 hours a day on an uphill and downhill trail will find this expedition fulfilling. It is best that we prepare ourselves for the Pumori Expedition by climbing, jogging and exercising regularly at least couple months prior to the start of the expedition. Climbing to the Mt. Pumori should be relatively fine for those who have experience climbing/trekking in a high altitude environment. Past climbing, hiking experience would be an asset because technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Utmost Adventure before booking the trek.

Best Time to Travel

The best time for expedition to Mt. Pumori is during spring (April to May) and autumn (August, September). The temperature is moderate and guarantees amazing views throughout the trip.
