Trip Overview

The Dhorpatan trek is off-the-beaten-path experience that isn’t too challenging. The Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve lies a day’s drive west of Pokhara in the shadow of Mt. Dhaulagiri. Trekking here will give you the chance to spot some rare wildlife as well as excellent mountain views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range. 

Dhorpatan is the prime habitats of blue sheep, a highly prized trophy animal, which is the main target of hunters. Other game species are Ghoral, Serow, Himalayan Tahr, Black Bear Pheasant and Partridge. The area is rich on floura & Fauna. Fir, pine, birch, rhododendron, hemlock, oak, juniper and spruce are main species of trees in this area. This area is not only popular destination for hunting of animals but also to preserve it because this area is best place for research for Floura & Fauna.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu 

Day 02: Drive to Beni 9-10 hrs

Day 03: Drive to Darbang 2-3 hrs and trek to Dharapani 5 hrs

Day 04: Trek to Lamsung 2250m 6 hrs

Day 05: Trek to Jaljala 3430m 7 hrs

Day 06: Trek to Dhorpatan 7 hrs

Day 07: Exploration and trek to Phagune Phedi 4493m 3-4 hrs

Day 08: Hike to Phagune Danda and trek back to Jungle Camp 7 hrs

Day 09: Trek to Gurjaghat 3000m 6 hrs

Day 10: Trek to Patichaur 6 hrs

Day 11: Trek to Darbang 5 hrs and drive to Beni 2-3 hrs

Day 12: Drive to Pokhara

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu 

As you land on Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, you will be received by us with a proper greeting. Then, afterward, you will be transferred to hotel.

Day 02: Drive to Beni 9-10 hrs

On the following day, you will take breakfast and then drive to Beni for 9 to 10 hours.

Day 03: Drive to Darbang 2-3 hrs and trek to Dharapani 5 hrs

You will leave Beni and then go for another drive to Darbang. Today you don’t need to go for a long drive like yesterday so you will enjoy the drive of 2 to 3 hours. Arriving in Darbang you will begin the trek towards Dharapni and it takes 5 hours. 

Day 04: Trek to Lamsung 2250m 6 hrs

On the next day you will set out from Dharani to Lamsung, it takes 6 hours of time frame to complete the trek. 

Day 05: Trek to Jaljala 3430m 7 hrs

On the following day, you will move towards Jaljala which is set to be the attitude of 3430m taking 7 hours. Jaljala is one of the targeted destinations of trekkers so it is known as the Hidden Treasure as well from where view the entire range of high mountains. 

Day 06: Trek to Dhorpatan 7 hrs

Trekking in Dhorpatan will be carried out in the next day after you depart from Jaljala. Dhorpatan is acknowledged for the stunning deserted countryside. Its characteristic is the Wildlife Reserve with stunning, uneven area and is the paradise for the hunters to hunt Blue Sheep.

Day 07: Exploration and trek to Phagune Phedi 4493m 3-4 hrs

Exploring and enjoying hunting in Dhorpatan today you will again go for exploration near to it where you will spot major endangered animals. Then you will trek to Phagune Phedi which is to be found at an elevation of 4493m and it consumes 3 to 4 hours. The trail will make you climb sharply and let you enjoy the attractive vistas of dense jungles, mountains, and landscapes. 

Day 08: Hike to Phagune Danda and trek back to Jungle Camp 7 hrs

On the following day, you will leave Phangune Phedi to hike Phangune Danda. From there you will trek back to Jungle Camp which consumes 7 hours. Stay overnight in tented camp. Overall you will admire and enjoy the trek to its fullest. 

Day 09: Trek to Gurjaghat 3000m 6 hrs

Trekking in Gurjaghat is very enthralling so on this day you will stroll from Jungle Camp towards it where you can see beautiful Rhododendron and some wildlife. Walking for 6 hours is like traveling into the journey of bliss on flat land with the merge of jungle and streams. 

Day 10: Trek to Patichaur 6 hrs

On the following day taking ascend from Gurjaghat in the initial phase will make you take downward moves. The trekking trail will make you stroll into the jungles and gorges. The journey from Gurjaghat to Patichaur takes 6 hours.

Day 11: Trek to Darbang 5 hrs and drive to Beni 2-3 hrs

On the next day, you will move from Patichaur to Darbang which takes 5 hours. Initially, you will take upward movement and then once you turn up to Darbang you will take a drive to Beni taking 2 to 3 hours. All through the light jungle and gorges, you will set your mark. 

Day 12: Drive to Pokhara

On the following day, you will drive from Beni to Pokhara Valley where the beautiful display of nature will already take your heart. Driving for some time you will take a peek and have your lunch. Continuing the drive you will get to see the rivers, people working in their field and high mountains and hills.

Day 13: Drive to Kathmandu

Spending a beautiful time in Pokhara you will go for a drive to Kathmandu. Arriving in Kathmandu you will be transferred to the hotel where you can enjoy the comfortable bed. 

Day 14: Free day in Kathmandu 

This is the day known as a free day where there is no fixed schedule and you can go shopping as there are numbers of good and advance Malls in Kathmandu. If you wish you can sightsee the places which are not included in Kathmandu sightseeing.

Day 15: Departure

Departure from Kathmandu to your onward destination. Our representative will assist you to the airport for your further destination.

FAQ

1. What preparations should I make before trekking?
It is always a good idea to involve yourself in doing physical exercises before trekking. Not that you have to be all athletic and muscular to trek. An average level of physical fitness will make the journey less stressful.

2. Is drinking water easily available?
Availability of drinking water is not the problem. The problem is the cost of it at higher altitude. As you gain height, the price of water rises up to 2-3$ per liter.

An alternative way of getting drinking water is by having your water bottles filled in tea houses. Tea houses will provide you boiled water for about 1$ per liter. They are completely safe for drinking.

3. What kind of food is available during trekking?
Food is not of any concern while trekking. You will get all kinds of cuisines. For breakfast, tea houses will provide you with eggs cooked in your preferred style along with pan cakes, bread butter, roti, and so on.
Various other dishes like pizza, pasta, momo, chowmein and many more are also available. The most preferred dish is Dal Bhaat. It is a typical Nepali meal. Rice is served with vegetable curry, lentils, tomato chutney and meat curry. 

4. What are the risks associated with trekking?
Trekking is an extreme sport and does come with a lot of risks. Some unavoidable risks are avalanche, heavy rainfall, earthquake, landslide and other such natural calamities.

You might fall and injure yourself or catch some viral flue. The deadliest risk of trekking is AMS or Acute Mountain Sickness. This sickness occurs when a great altitude is gained and the body fails to adjust to the changing pressures associated with it. Anyone can fall a victim of the sickness and if not treated in time, it can be fatal.

5. Do I need a guide/porter to trek?
There is no such hard and fast rule that you must have one. But it is highly advisable to travel with them. Some of the treks cannot be trekked without a guide most of them are the restricted ones.

A guide is someone who will help you with navigations. He will also have a better idea about the places to live in and eat at can negotiated prices for you.
